Project: Apartment in Benfica
Type of project: Total interior refurbishment
Date: 2018 – 2019
Phase: Completed
Description: The greatest challenge of this project was to redesign the layout of a two-bedroom apartment with just over 80m2 of gross floor area into a three-bedroom apartment with two bathrooms, without compromising the functionality of the dwelling.
The apartment has the advantage of having good natural light, over three fronts – East, North and West – and a long balcony that allows an external connection between the different compartments.
Given the area constraints, we had to give up on an separate kitchen and decide to integrate a kitchenette in the social area of the flat. The circulation space was reduced to the essential – the entrance hall – taking advantage of this passage area to incorporate some storage as well.
To achieve the aim of the project, it was necessary to carry out a total refurbishment of the apartment. The service meters were repositioned and the entire networks of water, sanitation and electricity redone. The wet areas – kitchenette and master bathroom – were repositioned in order to make better use of the natural light, having the new kitchenette gained a great prominence and protagonism, now located in the centre of the renovated flat.
