Project: Building in Graça

Type of project: Planning application for building extension

Date: 2018 – 2021

Phase: Project approved

Description: The property, although listed, is located within a conservation area of the Municipal Charter of Built and Landscape Heritage in Lisbon, and within a protection area for properties of National interest. The proposed extension is circa 3.5 m high, and aims to fill in the gap with the adjacent gable and promote greater continuity in the urban front.

The project comprises the construction of an additional storey (increase in height); replacement of existing windows and doors; changing the overall roof configuration; changing the internal layout of some residential units and changing the layout of the stair and lift core.

The proposal aims to retain the existing building features, using a light steel structural construction technique for the new extension and the standardisation of the window design with PVC frames. Includes the replacement of the current marseille roof tiles with traditional canudo tiles.

In the new apartment layouts, we tried to provide good natural light, ventilation and sense of flowing between the different spaces, repositioning the bathrooms and kitchen within the central area and freeing the east and west facades for the private areas of bedrooms and the social areas of living rooms, respectively.
